Introducing Paul Jeurissen – a Dutch professional photographer, specialising in cycling and travel photography.
In 1981 he travelled the Trans-America Trail by bike, a journey which took him from west to east coasts of the USA. Over the course of this tour he not only met his future wife Grace Johnson, but he also fell in love with photographing the American landscape, its people and the everyday incidents of cycle touring.
In subsequent years Paul and Grace undertook numerous photo journeys together by bike, totalling over four years across four continents. Paul has been well known since the ‘90s for his photographic style defined by the series 'Cycling Landscapes': a small red bicycle in a monumental landscape, with his beloved Grace in the starring role.
He has further specialised in photographing cycle culture, and cycle travellers in contact with other cultures. His expressive images have been published in numerous national and international publications.
In 2010 Paul and Grace sold their house and set off with their Koga Signature bikes to South Asia, at the start of a multi-year cycle tour around the world. This time, it is not a cycling holiday, but a new way of life. The theme of this cycling and photographic project is: ‘Bicycling around the world in search of inspiring cycle images’. Their challenge is to capture in photos the many cycle cultures of the world.
