100 days for KiKa - Mark van Rijmenam - Reinier van Dieren - KiKa Foundation

100 Days for KiKa (the charity for children with cancer)

100 Days for KiKa is a unique cycle ride and simultaneously the sportiest good deed of 2011.

100 Days for KiKa was created by Mark van Rijmenam and Reinier van Dieren. Over exactly 100 days they will cycle around the whole continent of Australia. The overall distance to be cycled is around 14 000 kilometres. Including the necessary rest days they will ride on average around 175 km per day. The main objective of the 100 Days for KiKa event is to gather as many charitable donations as possible for the charity KiKa for children with cancer. This charity is engaged in research into child cancer.

On the 1st June 2011 Mark and Reinier will travel to Cairns, Australia, from where they will start the ride on the 10th June. 100 days later, on the 17th September, their journey will end at the very same place.

A dream come true

Friends from school Mark and Reinier got to know each other at the Hoge Hotelschool (hospitality industry specialist high school) in The Hague. There they came up with the dream of the long-distance cycle ride. For years it remained just an idea, until on the 11th February 2009 the pair decided to translate their plan into reality. Finally, they decided to combine their dream with a good cause: gathering sponsorship money for children with cancer.

Mark van Rijmenam

Mark is 27 years old and lives in the lovely Dutch coastal city of The Hague. After completing his training at the Hospitality Services College Mark worked in Dubai, and travelled to Australia and New Zealand. After that he did a Masters in Marketing Management at the prestigious business university of Nyenrode. Since early 2009 he has worked as a Management Trainee at the international banking company ING, currently working as a Marketeer specialising in social media and innovative marketing.
His personal motto is: “Great dreams deserve to be pursued”. So he is always on the lookout for fresh challenges. Mark is a keen sportsman, including fitness training, squash and of course cycling. Diving and travel are his passions, and he is a dedicated fan of TED.

Reinier van Dieren

Reinier is 28 years old and lives in Rijswijk (near The Hague). After an exchange year in Canada and then completing his studies at the Hospitality Services College he began his career as a trainer at Hilton Netherlands. Currently he works as Trainer and Coach at Dexcom Retail, where he offers training for staff of the retail chains Dixon and Dynabyte in areas including personal effectiveness.
Reinier lives by the principle “exceed your expectations” and so he’s always seeking opportunities to exceed the expectations of himself and others. Reinier is an athlete, musician and a lover of life in heart and soul.

Why KiKa?

Mark and Reinier didn’t only want to make their own dreams come, but also to put their efforts towards a good cause.
‘100 Days for Kika’ is a sponsored ride to support the activities of the KiKa Foundation. This charity directs sponsorship money to the seven child cancer centres in the Netherlands, especially for research work in the search for improved therapeutic techniques and health outcomes for child cancer.
Less pain and less struggle. Better life chances and better life quality!

Why cycle for KiKa?

Because it’s a chance to do something with our healthy bodies for those who have been less fortunate!

Why Australia?

Initially, the pair came up with the idea of riding from North to South America. But that would have involved passing through countries which were less than safe, and security along with the need to return home safe and sound were top priorities for Mark and Reinier. So they reached for the world atlas once again and eventually decided on Australia. Mark had already been there once, and so knew the terrain to some extent. And because both of them were determined to cover a serious distance, they decided to ride right around Australia.

Support the 100 Days for KiKa ride on behalf of the charity for children with cancer!

Mark and Reinier are dedicating 100 % of their willpower, determination and emotional energy into their 100-day ride – they are giving 100 % for KiKa. 100 % of all Euros taken in donation will be given directly to the Kika charity for children with cancer.
